PROMPTConsider and interpret the following quote.  Identify and summarize the main idea. Responding to a statement Montag made, Faber says, “Three things are missing. Number one: do you know why books such as this are so important? They have quality. And what does the word “quality” mean?  To me, it means texture; this book has pores.  It has features… See why books are hated and feared?  They show the pores in the face of life.”

Faber is expressing his take on the idea of literature. He uses a metaphor to compare the human face to the meaning of a book. To Faber quality means texture. Texture from a literal stand point is a surface, something you feel. Which is what Faber is trying to explain, that books being full of feelings, good and bad. Just like the human face because when you look closely their are openings and cracks. In a figurative sense these crevasses have the deeper underlying meaning. Faber believes books became banned because they hold the true meaning of life, which can sometimes be ugly. Instead in this futuristic world they would rather just cover it all up. Which may seem simpler but in the end emotions and feelings cannot be ignored.
